Water Conservation

The Portales Mayor and City Council recognize that water is both an essential element of life and a limited resource. The City of Portales has adopted a Water Conservation Plan as well as a Water Conservation and Drought Contingency Plan by Resolution that outlines specific tasks and implementation strategies to be undertaken for the purposes of conserving and providing sustainable water usage within the city limits.

The City of Portales requests that all residents and businesses use the following Alternating Day Watering Schedule:

  •  Odd numbered addresses water: Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
  •  Even numbered addresses water: Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.
  •  No watering on Mondays or between 10am - 6pm daily.

The City of Portales asks that residents and businesses practice ongoing water conservation by preventing runoff and fugitive water.

Water Conservation is truly a community's commitment. Each individual within the Portales community can help utilize best practices in water conservation that will aide in our success at managing local water sources efficiently.
