POLICE DEPARTMENT MISSION STATEMENT: 
The Portales Police Department is committed to fairness, compassion, and excellence while providing police services in accordance with the law and sensitive to the priorities and needs of the people.


THE PORTALES POLICE DEPARTMENT:

HISTORY OF PORTALES POLICE DEPARTMENT
The position of Town Marshall was established by the Town Council of Portales soon after incorporation and separation from Roosevelt County on January 6, 1909. 

Town Marshall Ed Brown was appointed by the Town Council in February 1909; with 2 volunteers, John Carter and Thomas Teague, appointed in March 1909 as unpaid volunteers to serve as Special Officers working for the Town Marshall. 

In addition to these appointments, Enoch Raucher was appointed as Pound Keeper to control the dog problem in the Town.
