GROSS RECEIPT TAX INFORMATION   

As of July 1, 2022, the State of New Mexico imposes a 5% gross receipts tax on most sales and services and distributes a portion to local governments (1.225%).  The City of Portales also levies local increments of gross receipts taxes for general operations, infrastructure, environmental and economic development purposes for a total enacted rate of 1.5625%.  The gross receipts tax rate of 8.0625% (effective July 1, 2022) within the City limits also includes increments imposed by Roosevelt County.  The table below shows a history of gross receipts tax rates within the City from 2002 to-date.
