Notice Under The Americans With Disabilities Act
The City of Portales will not discriminate against people with disabilities on the basis of disability in its services or programs. This practice follows the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA).

Employment
The City does not discriminate on the basis of disability in its hiring or employment practices. We comply with all U.S. Equal Opportunity Commission rules under Title II of the ADA.

Effective Communication
The City will, upon request, provide aids and services to communicate effectively with persons with disabilities. This will ensure they can take part equally in the City of Portales’s programs and services.

Changes to Policies and Procedures
The City will make all practical exceptions to ensure that people with disabilities have an equal chance to enjoy its programs and services. For example, people with service animals are welcome in town offices, even where animals are generally not allowed.

Anyone who requires an aid or service for effective communication or a policy change should contact one of our ADA coordinators. For areas of employment, please contact Genna Richards, HR Director, at (575-356-6662 or via email. For any other assistance, please contact John Desha, Public Works Director, at (575) 356-6662, or via email.  Contact should be made as soon as possible, but not later than 48 hours before the scheduled event.

The ADA does not require the town to take action that would alter the nature of programs or services, or impose undue financial or administrative burden.
The City will not bill anyone with disabilities to cover the cost of providing the services listed above.
